MS1- You are the leader of your settlement.

The problem is that you have no population. It is your mission to come up with a brochure that will attract people to flock to your new town. You should be giving incentive to be a part of your community. What type of jobs, services, and benifits will they recieve if they move there? What area is the settlement located in?

Using the skills you have learned up until now I want you to create an outline, then a brochure advertisment. Remember, if you use a picture that doesn’t belong to you, you have toi give proper credit and citation.

MS2- You are website developers for Community, Action, and Service.

You are now full into the design and organisation phase of web publishing. The designs, so far, have been looking wonderful. We have another day to get the basic information together. I would like to see you organise your folder with the following basic format (but not limited to thís format):

MS3- The educational podcast.

Last year we went through the step-by-step process on how to create, edit, and enhance a podcast presentation. This year you will have total control to create an educational podcast that will teach others information that you think is important. This time you will have little interfearance from me, I want to see what you remember and learned.

Tip- Outline, script, record, sfx, edit.

Strategies of Effective Learning

This week MS1-3 are going to have an intensive workshop/ course on learning techniques and how to take notes. This is diverging from our expected path but it is something I think is very important for you to learn and understand.

We will be talking and exploring different learning styles that was presented by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University. His ideas encompass the beliefs of ISN and of SBW, that IQ is expressed in many different ways and that traditional IQ testing is not enough.

Then we will be discussing different note taking techniques and how they fit with your different classes. Not all not taking strategies fit with all subjects. Some provide an excellent tool for Maths and Science while others fit better with languages and social science. We will focus on the “Problem Solving Pattern”, “Comparison Pattern”, “Cause effect”, and “Sequential” patterns. With this we will be presenting these patterns in different formats; mind map, Cornell method, topic-list, and Summary method.

The last lesson for the week will be practice using some of the methods and reflection of the topic.

I think this information will be very helpful for you in the future and when you get to your IGCSE/IB levels.

Hello, I hope everyone is having a good school year so far.

I have posted all the expectations for this term, they are found along the top of this page one the links for your class.

MS1- Working on PowerPoint Introduction and making a presentation about Cyberbullying, Scammin, and fraud.

MS2- Finding information for your travel plan presentation. Find at least 3 different destinations from your partner near, or around, your city.

MS3 Continue working on your digital manipulations with Gimp.

MS4 Read chapter 5

MS5 Finish up on the objectives for your project.

Yesterday we finished up on the Blogs, your personal webspace. The rest of this week we will be exploring Wikis and finding information.

The internet is full of false information, but some information can be found that is reliable. This week we are going to talk about how to determine if information is real or fake. How to use Wikis and Wikipedia effectively.

MS3 Scamming, fraud, image manipulation and YOU

This section is one of my favorites. We talked about and saw some evidence about 419 scams, we saw a video about a person that lost $400,000 and news stories about lottery scams. Then we visited BBC and saw a short video about “Denial of Service” attacks.

Then we explored information about how image manipulation can change perception of the public and affect the political landscape. Museum of Hoaxes provided some stories and background while Professor Hani Farid sums up quite a few examples of tampering throughout history.

This week you are going to make your very own “world changing image manipulation.” Remember the rules:

No images of friends, unless permission is given. Do not pass the photos as real. Keep it clean.

MS2 Data Logging and plotting

Last week and this week you were given the challenge of collecting raw data that will be input into a spreadsheet. Some of you have done very well collecting this information. This week we are going to input this data into a spreadsheet, add formulas, and apply the information to graphs. One resource that we are using is located here

MS1 E-Safety

This week we have been talking and exploring e-safety. Some of the websites we have looked at are:

Superheroes advice on chatroom safety.

E-safety and net awareness.

Video of a person that was scammed for $400,000.

You also recieved some homework that will need to be turned in on Monday. 7 September, at the beginning of the lesson.

I would like to personally welcome all the returning students and the new students to ISN and ICT. We now have 2 IGCSE Computer Studies groups, one just starting and one that will be starting there comprehensive projects.

MS1-3 will have an exciting new curriculum, designed by your favorite ICT teacher. I hope this will be that extra bit more exciting and interesting. We will have more time for practical work and interactive elements.
